97 Exploder rear wheel goes squeak squeak. Help!

While driving I noticed a loud squeak noise coming from the right rear wheel. I pulled the tires off both sides and removed the calipers, brake shoes and could not see any problem. Shoes are 1/2 used and otherwise looked fine. My thoughts were perhaps a caliper is stuck and a shoe is rubbing. So I put everthing back and drove around the block. Still squeaks, even when I apply the brakes moving slowly. My assumption was it should have stopped when I apply the brake since it would be grabbing.

Any ideas?

If yours is like my 96, the parking brakes are little drum brakes integrated with the rear disc brakes, that is, the rotors incorporate drums for the parking brakes. The p-brake shoes disintegrated on mine and made noise. Replaced shoes, noise gone.

Shouldn't be any need to. Rotor's not turning with the parking brake engaged, so that inside drum surface of the rotor isn't critical.

Even if you never use it, there is likely a large rust ridge in the outside. Mine were a bear to pull off. This usually happens in rust states. Even backing off the adjusting screw didn't help. Make sure the spring clip that holds the shoe against the plate has a lot of tension. If it is weak, it will screw up the new brakes.
