I'm putting the Holley Commander 950 fuel injection on my '70 F-100. I'm almost done, however, I need to know where is the best place to get switched voltage that stays on while cranking. I was thinking right by the ignition switch, but I dont know which wire. I really hate to take it all apart or nick each one and find out. Anybody know?
I'm thinking you can use the wire from the starter relay. It powers the coil with a full 12 volts while cranking instead of the resistance wire. You could splice it in to your key/on hot wire to the fuel injection.
Well the system I got, is the Holley Commander 950 TBI system. It sits on top of the manifold where the carburetor used to be. Basically it's just a 4-barrel throttle body with 4 injectors sitting on top. You have all the sensors appropriate for a speed density system. This includes the O2 sensor. You have complete control and programmability of the fuel map via your laptop PC, and if you have the appropriate distributor you can have it control timing too. Really quite slick. The hardest part is the tuning IMO. It's kind of hard to tune and drive at the same time, I might get someone else to drive while I tune.
I loaded the base map for a stock SBC 350 (my engine is a Ford 360), and it's VERY close. I should only need small changes.
Hey, happy it's going for ya. I would be very interested to know how the mpg is when you tune to where you are happy with it. I hear they are worth an instant 15% increase and it gets better after getting them dialed in.
