York bracket

ok guys.....i am gearing up gettin stuff together to put my on-board compressor together. i have mapped out all the lines and my rear bumper is gonna be my air tank. my biggest issue so far is the bracketry. is there a year/model ford with the 460 that has a york from the factory? I am looking to just bolt it in!

also any suggestions/tips regarding installation and maintenance of the system would be appreciated.

Put an inline water trap between the compressor and your bumper. Also, tap a drain into the bottem of your bumper. This will keep it from getting eaten out by moisture, which will happen otherwise.

When I'm going to do mine, I am going to make it out of 1/4" plate.. it'll be fun since i'll have to have the smog pump <grr>

bremen....how exactly are you gonna make it? you got plans?

should i run a manifold near the york and run a line to my tank in the rear and then have a port in the engine compartment? or should i just run one line and use the pressure in the tank?

On my OBA system on my "other" vehicle, I run a line out of the York into an oil seperator (it WILL blow oil), and then into a pressure switch. I then "T" it off to an output on the front of my Heep and to a tank that I have mounted under the Heep behind the t-case. I then run a line to the back of the vehicle and have a quick disconnect sticking out just under my license plate. One thing I do not have that you should get is a pop-off valve.

I ran the outputs to the outside of the Heep just because I don't like popping the hood to get air. I know lots of people that have their outputs under the hood.

An oil seperator is probably a good idea, but some yorks blow more oil than others, depending on the condition of the rings. pete's setup is pretty much like the way I'd run mine, but I would make sure whatever comes out of the compressor is either braided stainless, copper tube, or regular AC hose.. The air coming out of the compressor is pretty hot, and regular air hose can get blown out..

with the bracket, the york have the mounting holes on the side.. I was going to take some plate, make a rectangular piece, gusset it, and weld some tube on one end. I haven't quite figured out how to mount it to the motor now, but before, I was going to mount it on the same side as the alternator, using the smog pump bracket for hinge, and running the compressor off of a double alternator pulley off of a 300-6. Now that I have to run a smog pump for inspection, I'll have to re-think the mounting, it will probably have to go above the P/S pump like the stocker AC.
