Hi. Has anyone here replaced a speedo drive gear inside a np435 4 speed gear box? I replaced the gear on the end of the speedo cable but it still didn't work, i put a drill on the end of the speedo cable and it worked fine so i know it is the gear inside the tailshaft housing on the end of the gearbox, I put my finger in the hole and it feels very worn. can your average backyard mechanic fix this? I was told the whole gearbox would have to come out????Thanks
The rear nut and flange come off the output shaft, then the housing that holds the rear seal and is around the output shaft will come off, then I think there is a simle snap ring holding the gear on, or was it another nut?
Either way, I do remember it was very simple.
Mine was plastic and worn out, but a trans shop GAVE me a metal replacement when I asked where I can buy one!
