Hopefully I didnt jump the gun. It now has 9000 miles on it and no problems. (knock on wood) Just wondering because a friend just bought a new one and was curious.

Actually, I wouldn't mind knowing how many miles you should wait before chipping, if any.

I don't recommend you get one until you've driven the recommended break-in period, nor make other drive-train changes to the vehicle.

 

Personally i would consider waiting until the warranty expires.If im not mistaken adding super chips voids the factory warranty.....NO?I just recently bought mine (2002,250 crew cab,4x4,w/psd)and i was very astounded the first time i really jumped on the pedal from a standstill.Got enuff power for me right out of the box,however do the superchips improve fuel mileage as well as horsepower?and is it a significant improvement or just a small one?Just curious.

No, it does not void the warranty. I can post the Superchips documentation on this, an article from Car Craft about it and the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. If you have an issue, its the dealer that's refusing it, but they can't void the warranty. Take it to another dealer. I also have names and phone numbers of dealers that sell Diablo and Superchips.

Its a significant improvement, plus the transmission shift is SO much better! Here's what it does:

Changes the injector control pressure.
Changes the injector pulse width.
Changes the boost map (more aggressive curve).
Changes the torque map (more agreesive curve).
Increases the line pressure curve in the transmission, resulting in a progressively firmer shift.
Changes the shift points. This is controlled by mph at partial throttle and by rpm at wide open throttle.
Reduces the shift delay.
Adjusts the torque convertor lockup parameters.
With the injectory control pressure and pulse width, the curve is also changed to reduce or remove the flat spot common in Powerstrokes.

 

Wow!You certainly know your craft.Thanks for the information.Guess i was wrong about the warranty being voided.Thought i read it in the manual somewhere.First diesel so please excuse my ignorance.Thanks again my friend.Maybe when it gets a bit older i too will consider one.I'm moreso concerned with fuel economy but if i can benefit from it more then perhaps it's worth a closer look.Thanks again.

 

We can, in many cases, produce a diesel chip whose primary function is fuel economy.
