Question EGR location/PINGING/Sluggish

Hey guys, I have a 93 Ranger 4.0L and I am looking for the egr valve on engine. I have the manual and it shows the egr valve near the IAC, but it is not there. Any ideas?? I am trying to solve my pinging problem and figured I would start there and then decarbon the engine. Also I disconnected my battery cable to reset my codes and once I did that I had no throttle response. it would start fine but bog down when giving it gas. If you can get pulled out and start down the road it will eventually start driving better. It does that every time I disconnect the battery. Now it seems sluggish and when accelerating the check engine light comes on and off but will not stay on and it wont store codes. Thoughts??????

The 4.0L did not have EGR in 1993. EGR started in 1994 on California models. It would be located on the drivers side of the upper intake manifold and have a 5/8" steel tube connecting to the exhaust manifold.

Question PINGING/Sluggish

Thanks. I guess that narrows the search for my problem. What do you think about the rest of my problems?? Any ideas are appreciated.

I beleive that when you reset the computer the truck may not drive right untill the cpu has Re-learned the truck. It Takes a 10 min driving cycle to re-learn it. That may explain the driving issues when removing the battery cable.

Thats what I thought but wasnt for sure. My biggest problem is the Check engine light and the pinging. I thought it may be carbon knock. I does it worse on 87 octane gas than on 89 octane. Will de-carboning the engine help the pinging?? What other options will help the pinging?? Thanks

Pinging

Forgot to mention when the pinging was occuring. When I am in 5th and accelerating is when the pinging or rattling or what ever you want to call it happens. The only thing is it is annoying and it drives me crazy. It needs to stop. HELP!!!

Do you get a pass code from the PCM? Have you tested the fuel pressure, low pressure will cause a lean mixture.
