leaking from gasket connecting engine to trans, big silver thing after the oil pan. someoil is sitting at the bottom and does not come from anywhere else? is the is "rear main leak" what do i do? i really cant afford the down time to take it to dealer. big problem?
i also checked under the hood for leaks and found none, well, it's hard to even look b/c there is soooooooo much (snip) under there, but i did notice the big black tube going to the turbo was loose and coming off, tightened that up....anything else i should look for? tried to look for the harness under that silver comp unit thing where shaffing has occured, but i cant see jack under that to tell.....
The big silver thing after the oil pan is the bell housing. Does the leak leave a puddle in your garage or driveway or is it a big thick drip that just sort of hangs there? If it is leaving a puddle, it could be a coupld things other than rear main. In any event the dealer needs to fix it. If it the thick hanging drip, it is probably assembly lube that heated up and hangs there. No one sees this unless they are under your truck. If it is not a lot of oil and you have to add oil, I wouldn't worry about it.
no nothing drips, yet. it's not coming from any where else as i stated...was under the truck with flash light. i wiped it and will see if it comes back. looks like it's just seeping from the house...talking to a tech i know, seems to be normal, since it' all under pressure, basically, he told me seapage is ok, leaking/dripping is bad....

A NORMAL condition means, they "all" or a good portion of them leak.. They do not.. Settle with it,, if you want.. Mine is an early build 1/03 and leaked from about 200 miles.. It seems to be a bigger problem for the 03's.. What a horrible feeling to still have the paper plates on, and leaking/seeping oil.. Live with it?? Not me!! I didn't spend my money to have a truck that leaks oil.. If the mileage was at 100,000 miles or more and it seeped "OK" then.. If Ford can't get'em to seal at 200 miles what will it be like when the crest 100,000 or more!! Mine went back 3 times (once was tech error I believe) for the Rear Main/Cover leaks.. It is "DRY" now.. If Ford can seal one,,,,they can seal them all.. I have a couple of freinds with 04's that are totally dry.. Not saying that everyone has to take'm back,,personal choice there.. Mine will go back as many times as it takes to get the truck I dropped my money for.. Nothing "less".. Oil leaks, and turbo drone/moan as well.. I never look at these issues as "the best Ford can do".. They can do better, and is shows on the later builds.. Oil leaks, and vibrating turbo's are a result of engineering "oversight" and should be delt with and made right.. We should all get the same quality product, no matter what year/build date..

My opinion......
Do you think this could really be an issue with how it is done.....as to why it continues to leak on some.
What is this turbo moan that I have heard of here on the net. I don't notice anything outstanding on my truck like a drone or moan but I just wonder what you guys are talking about?

It certainly could be a "portion" of the failures on first OEM install/builds and repeat attempts.. I also talked to a "couple" of other techs, and they both said that the install tool for pressing the seal in place at the engine plant was flawed, and not installing the seals on the early builds correctly/straight.. WHO KNOWS.. And some techs on a seal replacement, even removed the seal hub/crank end and ruined the possibility of a good seal.. The crank has to be "replaced" if hub removed.. I'm sure all the techs by now are "Hip" on what not to do.. Our Ford tech re-sealed my Rear Engine cover (during a seal replacement) and "created" a leak in the cover, that showed up about 1000 miles later.. I've installed Rear Mains on 7.3's and have had no problems.. If you do enough of them, sure, you'll get a few that weep.. BUT NOT ALL.. The seals can leak through the lip, or under the wear ring if not installed/sealed correctly..
If the seal isn't getting a tight seal, or is so sensitive to an install on the 6.0, it should be re-engineered.. Maybe a doulbe lip ect..
Some people don't care about a small leak... NO big deal... But usually leaks tend to get worse over time NOT better.. There are exceptions, as wear in though.
And it just don't sit right with me that eveytime I walk around my truck I should have to "peek" under it to see if it's any worse today, after giving Ford a box of money!! And,, after looking under more than a few "other manufacurer" builds, as well as Fords late build 03's and 04's and seeing no oil.. We all deserve that kind of quality.. Will it seep at some point...Count on it.. But it won't be on "my watch", and definently not while under warranty...

Turbo Drone/Moan is a condition that affects "some" 03-04 engines and is a virbration/sound that is transfered to the peddles and floorboards.. It is caused by the engine firing pulses/vibrations ect. and resonates through the downpipes/turbo "like a tuning fork" causing a vibration.. If you had it YOU'D KNOW IT.. If you've ever had a car or truck go past your house with LOUD "exhaust or stereo" and it RATTLED your windows.. Same thing... I have a stack of towels on my floor to help with the sensation.. The vibration range is very limited on mine.. About 1750 RPM and is gone within 100RPM either way... Do a search for Turbo Moan/Drone.. Plenty of reading to be had!!!

This is one of the reasons that I get so frustrated with some, not all, that keep repeating themselves that Ford is not fixing the problems and the 6.0 is still breaking.
What you have learned is one very small microcosm of the entire situation.
How many flashes “were done”…………that did not take because of how they “were done.”
How many oil leaks were done and did not work.
Now all the Ford Techs out there, THIS IS NOT YOUR FAULT and I am not saying it is, What I think…Ford has not given you guys the tools to accomplish your job. Tools being the in-depth training. I know Ford has one of the best training regiments for their technicians………however it seem as though the 6.0 has been very slow getting understood, and when the idiosyncrasies are finally reveled……………the thing works………I know there is still some hanger queens, that need to be destroyed. Customers given new ones….
The techs must have the most miserable job ever trying to make Fords “stuff” work.

I'm one of Ford's better advocates.. Maybe don't sound like it at times.. And I do really enjoy my truck, everything about it, "except for" the issues I've had to "chase".. I WOULDN'T want to drive anything else.. A bit off topic here, but let me give you a Ford senerio... Just ONE example that I fear will happen to 6.0 owners as well, down the road, along the lines of injectors/leaks/Drones/turbo bark ect. That Ford and/or others concider NORMAL conditions, or that come and go!! and may materialize beyond the "feared" end of warranty.. We have some Crown Vics in or fleet.. One cracked the "plastic" intake manifold/crossover and completely lost it's coolant in seconds!! (Broken 6.0 hose clamps..sound familiar here!) Could have easily trashed the motor.. For has a TSB out to watch for, and even the "EXACT" location for the crack to occur.. NOT a recall. WHY NOT.. Ford even RE-ENGINEERED a replacement manifold with an aluminium crossover.. EVEN STOCKED IT!! Car had about 70,000 miles.. I called Ford fleet services about "the known problem" for some help, being that we have more units.. Or maybe "shared" resposibility to be fair to all.. They said SORRY... I "strongly" explained my position, and thought it to be a SAD position to take, when the car BATTERY lasts longer than an intake manifold.. Again..SORRY.. We ate the in house repair!!!! The fact that we were left FLAT is the reason that I get so PO'ed when I hear about repeat problems, that owners get so frustrated with and just "settle with".. Make'm fix it... Or we may have to ($) after Ford's responsibility is up!! And as far as training goes....Maybe it true.... Experience "is" the Best Teacher.. Don't want to rob them of the oportunity!!! But in all reality, it's not all the techs fault, if they are working on a product that won't co-operate!!
It's just my opinion here, as I know that Ford does make a great product..
Got some flaws..Sure.. They all do...
