I was taking a walk through the junkyard the other day and came across an old Ranger Custom. Instead of XL, or XLT, under the Ranger logo, it said Custom. I've never seen one of these and was wondering if i could get any more information on it.
Custom was a designation for all Ford trucks of the day. You can find it on "Rangers", F-150's, and so on. I'm not sure what exactly it means, but I recall seeing a few GMC's with a similar "Custom" label on them.
the customs were mostly fleet vehicles. they were built for large companies and public works departments.
they are bassicly a bunch of identicly equipped (with minimal options) trucks. i used to work for my town dept of public works and all our trucks (all fords) were customs. a few rangers (all were 87s) and mostly F-350s and F-superduties.
My 1989 was a custom, 2.9L auto, reg cab, towing, cooling and handling packages, larger mirrors and ps/pb. No carpet, pw, pl, ac (installed before purchase).
