Yah just gotta push automatics faster. I once, long ago allowed my "expert" idiot friend to talk me into letting him ride in the engine compartment of a car we had just rebuilt the engine on. He wanted to be able to tweak it while his wife pushed us up and down the street at 35mph or so hoping to get the engine to start. We had killed the battery trying.
I do attest that the engine did turn but not start while being pushed. No one got killed doing it, but probably should have. Now that I think back, it was probably pretty funny watching this car run up and down the street above the speed limit, being pushed by another car with a shaggy looking dude sitting on the fender with his feet in the engine compartment. The street had those dips at the intersections that make a car buck like a mule when you hit them. I am amazed he wasn't tossed off. We tried.
I later learned the reason it wouldn't start was that said "expert" friend did not gap the rings, so the engine was tight. "That's good" he said. Idiot. I am now leery of experts and claim not be one at every opportunity.
So yes you can push start an automatic. Call me next time so I can watch and make a post to Darwin's.
To answer the question. I prefer stick when I don't have to do any stop and go or heavy towing. Automatics are nice too if properly equiped.
too hard to drive with your knee while fixing a sandwich, passing on blind turns and digging behind the seat for that CD. I've had 3 vehicles with manuals and 2 with autos. The manual is way more fun but the auto is way more convenient. I want both in the same vehicle
i dont mind the manual at all..i drove transport with a 13 speed over drive off and on for three years and got out of it ..my wife wants me home all the time so she is my boss. now i have a ford ranger with the 5 speed manual and i dont mind at all...i would get another one any day..the automatics are great too and im working on this one for the wife so she can drive it.
Absolutely must have a manual! Took me forever to find the '95 because every single truck like it that I looked at had an automatic. I only know of one other truck like it with a manual.
