Im planning on getting my Grandfather 1970 effie in the next few weeks. It is a 302/auto, 4 wheel drum, standard cab, with light blue and white paint. The first thing to do is fix the engine. Shouldn't be to bad. I have to replace the crank and bearings. Some one had used a 289 balancer on it. 2nd thing I want to do is convert to discs. I read over the swap in the tech section and Im sure I can do it.
Question... what cost should I expect from the junk yard for all the parts to do the swap with?
I will have to comb these post to find other tricks to add to this truck. It will be a parts hauler, cause I can't abuse my 56 that way.
Depends on the condition of the 'new' selvedge parts. Normally the I-Beams and spindles are in the neighborhood of $100-$150, Don't count on the rotors and calipers being much good and while your at it add in the cost of the new kingpins and radius arm bushings and axle pivot bushings along with new bearings and seals for the wheels. Total cost around $400 and worth every penny!
Probably would be easiest to buy an entire pickup.... my understanding is all '73 to '79 Ford I-beams with discs will interchange with the '65 to '72's. Would also give you some other possible spare drivetrain and suspension parts to use. Then part and sell whats left of what you dont need. Just an idea, not something you would have to do, and you likely wouldnt spend much more on a parts truck vs. buying I-beams, etc.
