My freshly bought 99 F350 PSD started to roll over 140,000, and the odometer quit turning. So did the trip odometer too. I realize there is a speed sensor somewhere but have never had any experience with them. The trip odometer reset button will work, but that is all.
Speed sensor, new speedometer, or disassemble and move the odometer a bit and hope?
Check the speed sensor on top of the rear diff but if the speedo still works I would say you need a new Odometer. Maybe try taking it out and giving it a squirt of some lubricant?
Or you could use an hourmeter and not have to stress about mileage being good or not.
But where would you connect that on a diesel without spark plug wires?
Never thought about an hour meter, I have one in my rinky dink Cessna, and it is hooked into an oil pressure switch, when the oil press. gets over 4 lbs, it closes and juices the 12V meter. I suppose you could do the same with the PSD, the plane runs anywhere from 45 to 80 lbs of oil pressure. I have never seen a number on my rig, just have the needle and L and H.
I havent figured mileage, but my 4.10 gear dually was great. The new truck has the 3.73, and I am stoked. And they all beat gas!
If you need a new speedometer here are the prices for Fords list for the Excursions which should be the same as your truck 00-01 is $341.91 and 02's are $302.31. A Canadian speedo recently sold on ebay with very low mileage around 8K I think for around list price.
thought about just trying to "help" the other one past 140000, and seeing what happens...Have never been in one on a bench, but it cant be any more not working than it is now. thanks for the ebay watch, I may keep my eyes open...
