There are only 232 shopping days until Christmas......
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 06-May-02 AT 10:29 PM (EST)]:-X12 It seems we are ready to cancel spring in Calgary this year and go directly to either Summer or Winter.
In the last 24 hours we have received the 3rd highest (in a 24hr time frame)snowfall since they have been keeping track of the weather (1895).
We are now going stir crazy. :-X12
I have taken photos from the 20 hour mark.
I will post a couple when they are developed.
To everyone on the West Coast,Please take some time out of your busy schedules and open your doors and turn up your furnaces to help change our destiny.
For those of you who like to Ski but couldn't this winter,
This is for you.

[b]
The 10 part Ski Season Warm-Up
10. Visit your local butcher and pay $30 to sit in the walk-in
freezer for half an hour. Afterwards, burn two $50 dollar bills to warm up.
9. Go to the nearest hockey rink and walk across the ice 20 times in your ski boots carrying two pairs of skis, accessory bag and poles. Pretend you are looking for your car.
8. For ski boot simulation at home, put a pebble in each of your street shoes and tighten a C-clamps around your toes.
7. Buy a pair of gloves and immediately throw one away.
6. Go to McDonald's and insist on paying $6.50 for a hamburger. Be sure to wait in the longest line.
5. Clip a lift ticket to the zipper of your jacket and ride a motorcycle fast enough to make the ticket lacerate your face.
4. Drive slowly for five hours - anywhere - as long as it's in a snowstorm and you're following an 18 wheeler.
3. Fill a blender with ice, hit the pulse button and let the spray blast your face. You'd almost believe you're skiing in front of a snowmaker!
2. Dress up in as many clothes as you can and then proceed to take them off because you have to go to the bathroom.
1. Repeat all of the above every Saturday and Sunday.

For those who don't know the metric system,40 Cm is equal to 16"
************************************************** *******
Floundering under flurries
By NADIA MOHARIB, CALGARY SUN
Calgarians dug out from beneath 40 cm of snow yesterday -- the biggest one-day dump this city has seen since 1981.
The harsh spring snowstorm claimed the life of a 63-year-old man who suffered a heart attack while shovelling snow -- and several others were injured in car accidents.
"This is one of those things people will remember," said Environment Canada meteorologist Linda Libby.
Up to 40 cm fell in a 24-hour period -- nearing the record which saw 48.4 cm blanket the city on May 6 of 1981.
The rude reality saw traffic slow on slippery streets to a near standstill as city crews worked like mad to clear routes.
The single-day downfall is nearly four times the monthly average for precipitation for May -- 10.2 cm.
Most charter, private, and rural schools were shut down -- including Chestermere middle and high schools, Conrich elementary and Strathcona Tweedsmuir -- but Calgary public and Catholic facilities stayed open.
Despite their doors being open, many parents kept children at home, with about 25% of elementary and 50% of junior- and senior-high students in the public system absent from class.
Paramedics, navigating traffic-snarled roads, tended to three patients who suffered heart attacks while shoveling snow.
Emergency crews had to cut a woman from her car after she spun out of control only to be T-boned by another vehicle on Deerfoot Tr.
From midnight to 3 p.m. there were six non-life-threatening injury accidents and 104 fender-benders in Calgary.
Fortunately, most were smart enough to drive at moderate speeds during the wintery onslaught.
"I think people have had enough, I know I have," said Insp. Keith Pollock.
Meanwhile, two fire officials heading to a multi-vehicle pileup just east of Calgary had to be cut out of their van after it smashed into one of several tractor-trailers which jackknifed across the Trans-Canada Hwy.
Fire crews also rappelled from Banker's Hall to retrieve loose pieces of aluminum hanging from the 15th and 25th floors.
As well, many bus routes were substantially delayed by the snow.
Overall airport departures and arrivals were down by about 50% with some flights cancelled or delayed while crews tried to clear heavy, wet snowfall every 40 minutes.
"Apparently it's snowing," joked airport spokesman Bryce Paton.
"I wish I'd taken a vacation today."
Libby anticipates up to 8 cm of snowfall by this morning and calls for a chance of flurries today and a high of 2C.
She blames the conditions on a "clash between two different weather patterns" -- a cold arctic weather ridge of high pressure bringing in cold, dry air and milder pacific air which carries a lot of moisture.
"We see this snow forming where the two meet and mingle," Libby said.
"But we've probably already seen the worst of it in Calgary."
Temperatures should push back up into the double digits by Friday, making its way back to normal highs of about 16C.

Send some of that moisture to New Mexico! The forrests of the southwest are on fire (again). We've had a very dry winter and a windy spring which means we are past the 'extreme' fire danger level.
So, should I send you my unused snow scoops and trade for some snow???

I'll be thinking about you snow-bound guys next time I hear someone refer to "going south" as a bad thing, like a piece of equipment or a situation. Personally, I am a native Floridian, dislocated to Texas for the past 14 years, and I think the South is a great place to go!
(but not EVERYBODY, please!).
