1989 Bronco, when I use the A/C or the engine gets hot I hear a high pitched whine, followed by a loss of power. When the engine has about an hour or two to cool the problem goes away.
I don't think it is the cooling system now, as I originally thought. Could it be my Vacuum system? The fuel pump?
I'm stumped, please advise.
Still going on, changed the radiator cap, the thermostst, flushed filled the coolant. When I say hot I mean the outside temp is hot like 95 degrees or higher and stop and go traffic. The A/C being on brings it on quicker too.
An old timer with a Chevy told me it's my fuel line getting too hot and therefore messing up the vacuum.
I was looking at the post by 89 Bronco and noticed very similiar symptoms, maybe the leads to the EEC power relay or Fuel pump relay or the leads to the fuel pump.
Sure seems like I am not getting gas when it is occuring.
yes fuel pressure regulator is on drivers side of fuel rail....
but i doubt thats it.........(engine hot or cold) usually it would run like crap if regualtor was bad...but dont rule anything out till you check it...
i replaced mine it still did this...but i replaced it cause it was running like crap...in my case it was a multilayered problem....
will your truck run fine without AC if so just tear it all out so its easier to work on (also remove the bracket) other wise you will never get at the ignition module which may be the prob...I already told you how to remove it and test it on the other post.....
and after u fix it you can always rehook ac up......
But you have to take all that stuff off to get at dizzy....

Well,I have had a few vehicles brought into the dealership for a whine noise and had it coming from a defective fuel pressure regulator letting to much pressure escape back into the return line, similar to when you turn a faucet on just a little bit. That is why I suggested the hose first,to try and narrow down where the noise is coming from before removing anything
Right on bro, you may be right, just what im saying is the main problem is ...vehicle runs till hot then dies out then wont start till cool......
Now i dont see the regulator doing that.....sure it may squeal........
and as wel mine had a high pitched squeal after i replaced the fuel pressure regulator...so there is something else possible as well for sure....
maybe he should check spark after she dies (immediatly)that would automatically tell him its ignition system....or not
then you have the eletrical fuel system which is very fustrating to work on so im just trying to save him my fustrations and money loss by tellin him dizzy and ignition module..
maybe he should get some code off this thing.......and let us know
