I was out looking at my future NP435 the other night. It is in what I believe to be a 1978 F600. The air cleaner on the engine says "330 XD". Anyone know if Ford ever made a 330 CID V8 prior to the 1997 5.4L Tirton debut?
Thanks,
Zac
I have a 1974 F-600 Grain Truck with the 330 HD, a 5+2 transmission, and an 18 ft. box on it. Getting pretty weak and I don't think they had very impressive numbers new. Does anyone know what engine family they are in?
There was a difference in the HP ratings for HD vehicles -v- cars and light trucks. In a car or light truck they rate them as peak HP while in a HD vehicle they rate it as continuous HP. A car or light truck engine will overheat and destroy itself if you try to get the peak HP ratings out of it for very long.
I've been trying to look for aftermarket parts for this thing for a few days. Doesn't seem to be too much (if anything) available for this seemingly obscure engine. Everything I pull off of this truck is going to be free. Just wondering if it was going to be worth the hassle to throw this engine in another vehicle. Seeing how I won't be moving any grain in the back of my 66 Bronco, I think I'll just leave the engine where it sits and pull only the tranny.
330's came as medium duty's and heavy duty's. the medium duty's had a cast crank and a waterpump like pickup truck FE"s. Heavy Duty's had a forged crank, a cast iron timing cover and a waterpump that was"flat". Both have FE dimensions, that would be one mother to put in a baby Bronco. Woody
