I have 98 FORD Explorer SPORT - I want to get nice truck sound - i was thinking about getting Air Intake - but i dont know is it good for the money - will it make my car sound better? will it add some HP to my car?? and what are the pros and cons of Air Intake
Air intakes add a power. It makes it sound louder but its almost has more of an import whine to it at high RPMs. It all depends on the sound you want. A problem that can occur are if the filter gets wet, water will get sucked into the engine. I would recommend a normal k&n filter and a larger MAS sensor. That combination can add 15 horsepower but it cost around $300.
i have a K&N FIPK...theres not much more sound than a high pitch whine at high rpms like he said. i didnt see any better fuel econonmy but there is a noticable power difference
i ordered a intake from ifab.net it will be here on the 17th i will install and let u know if you buy one from this guy be prepard to wait a month he is so backordered but i will see how it works i have a 91 explorer so i will let u know
K+N is a nice product. Mac Air Intake Products has the same intake for your truck with a fiber media filter too (hmmm....looks like a K+N, the instructions say clean it with the K+N cleaner kit, maybe its a...) Sure you wont have the name but I have one in my 98 X 5.0. An extra 14.4 HP. SOUNDS awsome too.
You can buy it from this web sites store too. Nice friendly people. I had an issue with my intake while installing it. I had an extra air line that isnt typical of my year. I called mac they sent the grommit and instuctions to retro fit it in overnight mail. 5 min fix. SOUNDS AWSOME. Its not taking air in, its gulping it!

Oh and a MAF sensor for your truck (if its the SOHC 4.0) is over $350.00!!!!! the K+N FIPK is $225.00 however the mac i have was $150.00 with shipping from motor haven (same HP gain and sounds same)
If you are going to do the MAF sensor, get a chip too so that your engine will be matched with it. You will see improvements with out a chip, but with the engine will literally be in sync with it- and afterall isnt that the idea
