Would you buy a 04 6.0 diesel?

I am in the process of searching for a 04 F 250 super cab diesel. However, I have read a lot of information from this site and was wondering if the 04's are any better than the 03's.

Thanks
Ryan

I think it is a crap shoot. Although 04s seem to have less problems I still hear about an occasional horror story. Also, when most people post here their are generally looking for an answer to their problem. No problems no post so do not think all 04s are problem ridden since all the posts here are having problems.

I agree it's a crap shoot. They do seem to be better in 04 but they're certainly not right yet. The fact that Ford has turned off pilot injection on all the 6.0's speaks volumes about that fact.

Would I buy one? I doubt it. I'm trying to get ford to buy back my 03 right now, though, so I have a somewhat slanted view point, probably.

I thought you could post any question in this forum about the 6.0's. But thanks for telling what you are suppose to post. To be honest I didn't really know since I just joined yesterday.

Smile Go for it

Not only would I buy an '04 I would buy another '03. I am currently driving an '03 March build (Dec. '03 flash) have 17,000 miles on it and pull a three horse trailer at high altitudes. Mine has only been to the dealer for my free oil oil change. There are two other people out where I live who own trucks with the 6.0 PSD, who also have had zero trouble. All are stock (no chips, no exhaust mods) and none of us drive our trucks like hot rods. I did loose fuel mileage with the Dec. flash. Highway mileage went from around 17.5 mpg to 16.5 - 17 mpg. I don't care about pilot injection but would like to have my transmission braking back, which were both taken away by the Dec flash.

If you are a lucky person and like to take chances, go for it.
I bought an 04, it was assmebled in Oct03, so it has an 03 motor. I haven't had any major problems except the oil drip that ALOT of people have and poor mileage that some people seem to have. I get 12mpg at most, and that hasn't been bothering me too much until now that fuel prices are skyrocketing. It also bothers me when I see others are getting 18-20mpg. I mean, doesn't ford have any quality control? How can the same engine in one vehicle get 11mpg and in another 20mpg? Thats a 90% diference.

RyanF, My 04 fx4 crew was built, engine 10/03 and the sticker in the door also says 10/03. 3000 miles with 33x18 wheels, turbo back with cat delete, and edge juice with attitude. Knock on wood but I have had zero problems.

I can therefore be counted in the HAPPY camp.

What kind of mileage have you been getting?

I was wondering if you know if all the trucks that were built in 10/03 have 03 motors in them?

I tend to get 13-14 pretty consistently, but don't forget my tires are about 13" wide.

I traded my 03 6.0 with 30,000+ miles and no problems for an 04 Harley edition. 7,000+ miles on the 04 with no problems. I love these trucks!

What kind of mileage(city and highway) do you get on your 04?
