Having just screwed up my own paint job I probably shouldn't be giving advice but that's never stopped me before. Actually, I was fine until the color coat. Anyhow, I was advised to put on two wet coats of urethane primer, then wet sand it with 600 grit. It worked great, smooth as glass and ready for paint. I used Nason 2K Select Primer @ about $50 per gallon.

Jor is right on, and I'll just add that the product sheet for your primer
( goes for any paint product) should be followed for the recommended coats and cure times. Also, the total coats of primer will be more if you need a lot of block sanding and filling. Most paint companies recommend at least a minimum of 2 coats of primer, good luck on your project
