I have an 86 F-250 with a 460 that needs to be rebuilt. I was toying with the idea of converting it to a diesel. Has anyone done this or know what all would be involved? Do the motor mounts fit? Is the bellhousing bolt pattern the same? It is carbureted so it doesn't have a high pressure fuel pump but don't diesels have a seperate delivery and injection pump? Just wondering if anyone had any ideas on this. Thanks
I don't know what the conversion would entail, but the price of a 6.9L diesel motor complete is around $5500. Don't know if it would be feasable on an 86 truck. Just my $.02
Is that used? If so that is really expensive. To say I am attached to this truck is an understatement so I don't mind spending some money on it but I don't think I could afford that. Maybe rebuilding the 460 is the better way to go. Thanks for the input
That's for a BRAND SPANKING NEW remanufactured engine. It is possible...no clue on what you'll need besides the glow plug controller and some of the fuel components.
