any help on what to look for would be appreciated

Check the codes first off and see if anything comes up. The process can be found at http://fordfuelinjection.com and click on "Getting Codes." Other than that, I would check the tps voltage at closed throttle, and check the idle air control solonoid for proper operation - i.e. clean it if it is gummed up. This should get you started at least.
Do you hear any hissing noise?
Vacuum leak would cause you have to IDLE problem. Spray some throttle body cleaner around the intake and around the throttle body. If IDLE changes then you found where the leak is coming from. Don't forget to check vacuum large vacuum hoses ie. brake booster vacuum hose, etc.
Pull out the IAC and clean it with throttle body cleaner and brush and clean the insides where the IAC goes in to the throttle body.
