I'm about to buy a used '73 f 250 from an old tow lot.
The person in charge of the place dont know too much, but says the truck used to start right up. That was several months ago and it has just sat there. The first time we tried to start it, the battery was bad.
The second time, I put a new battery on it, but it still didn't start. No cranking or anything, just silence. The accessories came on, but that was it.
I tested out the starter and it checked out just fine. That leaves only one fo two things. Either the battery connectors are bad, or the solenoid near the battery on the passenger fender wall is bad.
But thats just my assessment. This truck looks like it has an a$$load of aftermarket crap under the hood.
If you can locate the selonoid on the inner fender wall you there should be 1 or possiblly 2 small wires connected to it beside the main battery cables(one is a ground). My 77 only has one so the selonoid is chassis grounded, the wire on mine is red with a white stripe(yours is probably a different color). It comes from your ignition switch and you should have 12 volts on that wire when your key is in the start position. Most likely it's just a bad selonoid though. You could try to bypass the selonoid with a thick piece off wire or in my past expierience a channel lock plyers will work. Probably not the safest idea since selonoids are $5-$10 at your local autoparts store but it's a good check. Good luck
