'96 full sized Broncho with 5.4L. Not sure which auto tranny is in it.
Took it to Jiffy Lube yesterday for their $90.00 tranny flush service. I just noticed that Mercon is recomended (on the dip stick and in my Haynes manual). The invoice says they put Dextron III in it. Will this be, or is this a problem?
Most fluids are Dexron and Mercon compatible, I have not seen any that weren't except as metnioned next. I think the only time you have problems is with real old trannies that use type F or the real new ones that require Mercon V(?)
The old C4 and C6 need the Type F. Dextron or Mercon will not be on those dip stickes cause mine is a 72 I do not know about the new ones! I agree with Jim, I don't think there is a difference. I think it is a trade mark thing more than anything. Call your local tranny shop. They will know.
