Swapping rear end.

I am replacing the rear end in my 89 f150 4wd. I found one from an 85 2wd. they are both 8.8 rears with the same ratio. I notice that the 85 rear does not have the anti-lock brake plug, however I don't think it will be a problem, I just wont plug it up. Are there any other differances that would not allow this to work?

Sometime in that era they made a change on the yoke(how the drive-shaft fastens to the rear end). That would be the only thing that may be different.

If I find that problem, would the yoke from my 89 fit on the pinion shaft?

I don't know I haven't tried. I only know that I was considering buying a 92+ model that had a bad rear. I have a parts truck that was a 85 and the yokes were different. My other parts truck 91 is different than the 85 also. I haven't looked at my 90 yet so I don't know when they changed designs. Both my rears are in the classified sections for cheap should you want to go that way. If you try to replace the yokes make SURE you don't overtighten the nut as it will mess up the backlash setting. Good luck
