one problem after the other.....

i was changing my oil today (loooong overdue ) and noticed an odd smell. upon inspection i noticed that a line was very slowly leaking oil onto the headers which would burn it off creating a small amount of smoke and a burning oil smell.

im not sure but i am almost certain it is either the sender or return oil line to/from the oil cooler? (a small cooling unit in front of part of the radiator) i think that this is what it is. my question is why is it leaking there?

if anyone has any ideas, im dirty right now and am willing to go look at stuff (ive got the "git 'er done" feeling) im tryin to fix a few things on the bronc before she collapses on me. get the small stuff out of the way so i can move on to bigger better improvements.

couple more q's:

1. i have an exhaust leak that i think is coming from where the headers connect to the heads, but the bolts wont budge (i was told to tighten them). i tightened the ones where the collector pipe meets up with the rest of the exhaust but that noise is still there. its more of a high pitch noise, which is almost a "pop, pop, pop, pop" at idle, and quiets a bit when revved, and also goes away after running for 20 min. or so.

2. the plug on the rear axle is a recessed square plug. i cant find any tools in the garage that will fit in there to loosen it. ive tried socket wrenches w/o a socket on it, a fat flat-head screwdriver.... to no avail.

3. the rear yolk assembly, i need to take it apart to replace the pinion seal. NAPA told me its not that difficult of a procedure, but im curios, before i start taking stuff apart, is it really that simple? im pretty sure i can take it apart, but my biggest concern is putting it back together, is there anything i should be aware of? or does it just go right back together. i dont wanna put it back together and find out some teeth or whatnot arent lined up correctly.

Not sure about your line leak. Could it be a rubbed line leak from vibration or is leaking at a threaded fitting? Is it an oil cooler or Trans cooler line? 1. It sounds like a header/head leak. The bolts are probably pretty rusty (which makes it seem like they are tight) and care should be used when trying to tighten so that you don't break any and have another headache. You may try rust penetrant for few days and try to tighten, carefully! If it is a leak they should be easy to soak with rust penetrant as the leak gap will allow better exposure. The sound probably goes away after it warms up and expands. 2. The square plug sounds like it should be a ratchet size. 1/4, 3/8, or 1/2 drive ratchet type. 3. I have no idea but I am curious as well. I hope my ideas help, but I am not sure if I am even close.
