I had the same problem what I did was to use felpro permadry plus
VS 50312 T they are expensive but you will not have any more leaks they install dry instructions are with them I think I paid about 35 bucks last year I hope this helps good luck

When I did my 1989 I got them square and they never leaked again. The most important things are... Don't overtighten, get the load spreaders back in the right spots, have everything clean, covers flat and use the right gaskets.
