Error Code 538? Help Diagnosing Please!

Been getting check engine lites intermittently as driving to work typically (20 min after start up- doesn't happen immediately). Intermittent also, so it does turn off and on again occasionally.

While the lite was on this morning as I got to work, I thru the code checker onto it while running to do the KOER test.

Got code 538.

This book indicates insufficient RPM change during Engine Run Self Test or
Invalid Cylinder Balance - throttle position movement or
Invalid Cylinder Balance- cylinder Identification Problems.

So, any ideas what to do now? Check and replace the Throttle Position Sensor?

Don't know what to do about Cylinder ID problems or insufficient RPM change.

Thoughts?? (I hope so!)

Did you hit the throttle during the KOER test? There should be a signal just as the test starts (a single blink or something like that, I can't remember for sure) for the operator to hit the throttle - go above 1/2 throttle, and make sure the rpms go above 2000.

I can try it again. I quickly stomped the throttle, and am pretty sure it went above 2k rpm but I don't have a tach on it to know for sure. Yeah, I did the throttle stomp, steering wheel spin, and OD cancel button probably 15 sec after I heard the 6 cylinder beep notification, just like the book said.

That wouldn't explain why I get the check engine lite though while driving would it??

You may not have done it right. When you hear the 6 cylinder notification press on the brake turn the steering wheel then cycle the od off button a little bit latter you will hear another beep that's when you have to press the throttle, If you did all that make sure you're going all the way to wide open throttle (WOT)

Ok. I am pretty sure I didn't do it all in that order. I don't recall another beep actually, so it sounds like I wasn't getting the real error codes then.

Thanks. I'll try again and repost.
