I know of a 96 that had all the stuff knocked out of the kat and now it sounds like sometimes like a ressonance gets going and makes it loud. These trucks were noisy anyway and now it's worse sometimes. Anybody else familar with this problem?

My truck just turned 300,000. km's. I am sure its the original cat in there. I also would like to remove it and just put in a piece of pipe. Will I hurt any operations by doing this and will gas milage drop if I do. Right now with a all stock truck and 3.55 gears I get 26 mpg empty, and 18 to 19 pulling quads or sleds. I love the fuel economy and I would hate to have it change by removing something that won't make any difference anyway. Thanks for any info.

Could that possibly be kilometers per gallon? 26km/gal x .624 = 16mpg.........

I had my muffler on my '99 cut out a while back and a straight pipe to replace it, and just today I had my cat cut out and replaced. Boy did that make a difference!! You can really hear that turbo scream, I love it!!!

Here in Colorado most counties require emissions and they check for the CAT. I have read on the site that they can be gutted. I know somewhere it said how to do this but I could'nt find it when I seached. Can someone help with this? Also does it require cutting and rewelding the CAT back together? Will be putting on 4" exhaust and downpipe at same time.

Does AZ require you to keep them?

you wanna know how to have no particulate trap, but still pass there tests??

all the thing does is trap soot and heat it self up to burn it off

take a piece of tubing that fits in it snugly and sherpen the end and beat it through, clean out the inside and weld the tube to the cat, then when they hit it with the stick it still sounds like its full, but you have no restriction, my truck wouldnt pass the wa smoke opacity test with it like that and the chip and the rest of the exaust, so when im around the corner i back the chip to factory and pull my air cleaner, no problems after that

I'm guessing you're using Imperial gallons for your calculations, eh?

I have a 99 model and I gutted the cat on it. Im awaiting my new downpipe and intermediate pipe comming in next week. If anyone wants this gutted cat let me know and they can have it. Just pay for shipping to you or pick it up and were set. If not its going to the dump.
