Will a 4v cause emission issues???
I live in Phoenix, AZ and we have to go through emissions on vehicles 67 or newer. I need to know if a 73 f100 with a 390 would have had the option to come stock from the factory with a 4v intake and carb? I don't want to end up in trouble if that is something that might give me an issue.
My truck currently has a 2v manifold and EGR plate with a 2 barrel carb. Will putting a 4v manifold with an EGR plate and a 4 barrel carb cause me a problem?
Also, do you think a 4v will give me better power or economy and is it even worth it?
Thanks!
As far as economy/power - you can have either. A well-tuned 4v will get better mileage if you keep your foot out of it. Conversely, a well tuned 4v will give you greater performance with a slight decrease in economy if you have a heavy foot.
If your 390 is stock, I have been pretty happy with my Edelbrock #1406: 600 cfm w/ electric choke. It's easy to adjust and is friendly to a daily driver. As well, spring for the aluminum manifold if you can - it's better in every way. *eBay is a decent source* ...as are the calssifieds

Also, where did you find an aliminum EGR manifold? I've searched high and low and I can't find one. Even cast iron ones with EGR have been scarce. Please tell me where you found one!
