and forest service or somebody has grounded the retardant bombers...
The large fire bombers have been grounded, for now. The USFS would like to go with a larger fleet of smaller planes. Although a smaller plane carries less retardant it has a quicker turnaround time, therefore it can drop more stuff in a given amount of time. Plus it costs a lot less to operate than the WWII equipment.
