a crane 941 would work, i tihnk you can get away with the stock valvetrain with the 941, if you want big go with the crane 801 but that requires a beefed up valve train, kinda depends on what you are willing to spend also, im sure some of the guys like greg, sean, and dino will stop by, they all run very healthy cams but i cant remember there part #'s, good luck

You will not be running pump gas with the 941 cam and 10:1 compression with iron heads. I would suggest a bit larger cam. The 801 would be the minimum. Which heads are you running? Are you planning on porting them out a good bit? This is where cam choice becomes critical. Restricitve heads and a big cam equal poor performance throughout the RPM range. High flowing heads and a small cam equal the same thing. Which offy do you have? They made some great intakes. I wish they still were around.

To look at crane cams specs go to www.cranecams.com and look up the part number with the search box. The part number will always end in a 1. 343941 and 343801. The 343943 is the 941 cam in a kit with lifters and break-in lube.

When running high compressions on pump gas you need to pick a cam that will give you lower cylinder pressures. Increasing overlap doesn't always mean a decrease in cylinder pressure. The Lobe separation angle and advertised duration are the key elements here. The wider the LCA the less pressure. The bigger the duration the less pressure.

What would it cost to shave some off the 410 pistons? Might get the compression ratio down enough to run a milder cam. I'm thinking he wants a stump puller, not a screamer. (see 36" tires)

(I'm sure this will spark some replies from the big cam boys, to remain nameless)

the only time i drive my truck is to head for the hills...but i dont mind showing off alittle getting there . The casting # "E27" there is a "0" with 2 dots underneath it in front of that number. the intake is a offenhauser #"360" . Id rather spend money towards upgrading my heads instead of shaving pistons if i can help it. Or maybe a trip to the junkyard for larger heads?

That is a good head. Put CJ valves in it and port the exh. bowls a little and they perform great.

Ok ... Im down to ordering my cam. The 343801 seems pretty high on the rpm scale? Is there one that kicks in lower. I want a snappy, responsive, powerful engine. I dont care about econo here..just power. But want to keep my stock heads.

I have run the 941 in my 69 highboy....390 10.5 to 1..Shaved/ported heads...And was very impressed with the power...came on really strong in the midrange, and ran out about 5500 rpm....no problem on 91 octane fuel. Was really happy with it!
