What does Modular motor mean?

Just wonderin what modular motor meant?

Is it called that because it doesnt have a distributor etc? Thanks

Welocme. It is just a design where the cylinders are pressed into the block instead of cast in amd machined. The 4.6,5.4 V8's as well as the 6.8L V10 all share this design.

Now that I think about it my mom has a Merc Grand Marquis that has a 4.6 in it. Nice car and motor.
