Roller Cam

Ive decieded to run the Crane 349521 in the 390 im builded, but the guy down the street said I have to have special machining done to the block to run a roller cam. I told him i think his wrong but just want to make sure before I start.

that is a hydraulic roller. No machining required to a block running a hydraulic cam.

You will need the Hydrauilc roller lifters and custom pushrods. I'm running that cam, I suggest you consider some slightly stiffer springs than those reccomended by Crane. I had Valve float issues with mine below 5000rpm.

A local shop replaced mine when they experienced valve float on the dyno. I think they went too far. I'll dig up my part number, but I know they are about 430lbs at open. about 100lbs above the Crane reccomended value..
