I'm with Ecuri...I have noticed the same behavior in regards to oil pressure, and I use 10/40 year round here in the Great Northwest. Also have an IVR issue cuz i have more than 2 guages fluctuating. Really freaks me out when i see ALL my needles climbing to the right!!!!! But I give her a good whack on the dash and viola...they all go back to where they belong. Go figure.

there is always a bunch of possiblities for the same symtoms and always room for one more.
the best point I see here is the fluctuating of the 2 gauges. if your oil pressure is rising at a stop or low rpm you really should address the electric system of the gauge cluster and sending units.
to add to your temp issue you can use the higher flow thermostat of the same degree rating. you'll have the same operating temp cruising but the engine shouldn't reach such a high temp and will take longer to overheat sitting in traffic.
as far as oil goes I run the 15w50 Castrol, the perfect bowl of porridge.

I wouldn't trust the in dash oil pressure gauge to start with. Install a good mechanical gauge so you know what the oil pressure really is, and then go from there.

Electric fans will not cool as well as the factory fan unless they are high CFM units with the proper shrouding. The factory fan with the proper shroud moves over 3000 CFM at idle.

Putting an electric fan on while the factory fan is still installed (I thought that's what I read above) does nothing to help cooling. There is no way it can add to the cooling capacity since it doesn't move as much air as the factory fan. What it amounts to is a restriction and it's actually hurting your cooling.

I believe, if you really have to have an electric fan in addition to OE, the only real time it will help is when setting dead still in traffic.

In general, electrics on trucks aren't meant as primaries. To get one that would do the job by itself, it would be really big and REALLY loud.

Ranchero77, Explain to me the concept of high flow thermostats. I am unfamiliar with these. Tell me more.

hey fatherdoug, a hig flow thermostat is designed to work with a high flow water pump
(mostly for race) a stock thermostat will actually be impeded by the high flow of the more powerful pump. i dont know if they help provide more cooling witha stock pump or not . i would be interested to know if anyone out there is running one and how it works. hope this info helps.
