Well, i did my regular K&N servicing yesterday, cleaning the thing up so the beast could breathe!! I noticed as usual that on the top of the filter there's an indication of which side is the "Top Rear" of the filter. For the life of me, I can't figure out why one side would be better than the other. In fact, it looks to me like the side that's supposed to be the front remains a bit dirty no matter how meticulously I clean it...down in the pleats there are permanent stains. Anybody know a reason why it wouldn't be okay to turn the filter around...maybe alternate sides with each cleaning?

Yes, make sure you keep the filter oriented the same way with the "top rear" at the top rear. The reason for this is because after you put it in and tighten it down the first time it will put groves in the top and bottom of the filter. It will fit the best if you always orient it the same way. Trust K&N, they know what they're doing. I have had one in my 96 PSD and know from experience.
hate to be negitive, but I was at a ford rally a few weeks ago and they took the stock air box off to do some mods. when they got the hose off the inside was lined with black dirt, grit that had passed threw the K&N filter. I have nothing aginst the filter, but you may want to check your hose, just take it off where it goes into the intake and you will see, hopfuly you will see nice shinny black plastic and no dirt, but you should look.
