had re-installed the oil pump again, primed, evrything bolted back up and no oil pressure at startup, but pressure at 2500 rpms (40 lbs) well i wanted to check uptop so i have removed the pass. side valve cover and the lifters are all coated with new oil. but i want to clean the oil galleys anyway. what can i use to clean those with without having to drive 40 mi. to get that "special" ford tool to do this with. i thought of using a straight coathanger. any comments? also on the 302 (88) the galleys are on each end of the head, correct?also what would be a sign when pulling these covers of oil starvation (lifters tapping) i had a theory that no oil press. at startup but pressure at acceleration could indicate clogged oil galleys. would like some input on this please. oh and when i took the plenum off, lots of thanks for the search and article on the 1/4" drive extension & torx bit. my headache went away when i read that. thanks in advance
If you installed the old pump then I would say thats where your problem lies. Oil pressure will always go up when you rev the engine. If no oil pressure is present at idle you have a bad pump, bad bearings or something else causing the loss of oil pressure.
im sorry, i should have metioned that its a new pump but installed twice. old pump held 50 lbs at startup, but would drop to about 6-7lbs. so i replaced the screen and pump, cleaned the pan, but the first time i thought i did not have the shaft in correctly, so i installed it again to make sure. still no press. at startup.new pump would have to be bad, even though i was able to prime it with oil. went through the top end of the motor today. other than some crust in the valve covers everything else looks good. oil gallies are clear, no crud anywhere. changed the pcv while i was at it, made new gaskets for egr, iac, and tb. bolted it up and then broke my rotor button,i dropped it on the concrete and broke in two. so ill have to wait until tomorrow to start it. im leaning towards a high volume pump but when i did a search some posts dont recommend it. should i just get another cheapie mellin and see if that fixes it? thanks
I believe you can buy a high volume or high pressure. Not really sure what would work best for you but you do need more pressure! The real question is why have you lost pressure? But if you knew that you wouldn't be posting. I need to reread your orginal thread.
Question is..
What weight oil are you using? 5W30, 10W30, 10W40, 20W30, etc?
I would recommend putting a GUNK Motor Tune-UP Flush in addition to your existing oil. Start the engine for 5 minutes and turn it off. Drain the oil and the oil filter. Since you are having Oil Pressure problem, I would use either 5W30 or 10W30 for at least 500 - 1000 miles and then use a higher weight oil.
