Question Tranny brake?

There is a post or someone with knowledge about the December flash that removes the tranny brake.
Anyone know of it, or where it came from, if it came from Ford do we have a copy of it?
Have done my searching……….what I think I remember……that is a real moth full…the post was buried in another thread, that did not directly address the tranny!

I remember the post also, just can't find it, I think it was irt someone asking what was the most recent flash out. But I have had the dec flash and it did not take anymore of the ds out of the tranny than the oct flash. seems the same only in the first 3 gears.

The techs over on http://flatratetech.com/6literpowerstroke/ Message Forums say the 4th & 5th gear tranny braking is there but operates differently by using brakes in combo with it.

My understanding, and I have tried to prove it, unless you have a load you cannot really relly feel it kick in. Mine is that way. With a load you really know with out you wonder if it is working!

I have the Dec 03 flash.

It definitely changed the function of the tranny brake. Before in T/H mode if you let off the throttle in high gear the TC remained locked and you got some hold back from the motor. If you pressed the brake the tranny would drop out of OD and downshift through the gears as you continued to brake.

Now when in T/H mode in high gear, if you let off the throttle the TC unlocks and the truck freewheels. I actually like this on the level or slightly rolling hills as I think that my fuel mileage has picked up somewhat.

On hilly roads I do sometimes miss the old programming. But if I tap the brake pedel the TC will lock back up depending on how fast I'm going and how hard/long I pressed the brake and I will get some hold back. If I press again the tranny will start to go through the downshifts just like before.

Under 45 MPH it seems like the tranny behaves just as it did prior to the Dec 03 flash.

What weight are you pulling and will it work on 6/8% grades and hold the MPH at where ever you set it?

I pull a 30' Weekend Warrior toyhauler who's weight varies but is usually around 10,000 lb or so. With the T/H mode engauged and the TC locked and downshifted, it will hold 6% grades OK but some of the 8% grades do sometimes need an added dab of brakes.

I pulled the trailer back from camping out near Idyllwild, CA a few weeks ago and had to come home via hwy 74 because of a rode closure due to a fire. I didn't need to use the brakes that much going down the hills except to slow for turns.

It is nice to have the triple axle and that extra set of brakes though when you need them :-)
