Maybe this belongs in general automotive discussion, but since it's pretty pie-in-the-sky, I thought I'd pine about it here. The mod I'd like on my truck, no, that I'd really, really love on my truck, is some sort of grappeling device that I would use to hook up to the backs of semis so they could unwittingly tow me on my 20 mile commute to work, and my gas mileage would go sky-high while my road-stress level plummets to an all-time low.
I envision the grapnel (a mechanical claw? an electromagnet?) being attached to a rigid pole that telescopes out from under my truck and attaches to that horizontal bar that runs across the back of many semis at just about truck-bumper height, and then there I would sit, a scant car length behind one of those rolling billboards, content to veg out until I get within a half-mile of my exit....
Why no put a giant electromagnet on the front of your truck. When you activate it, it will automatically attach you to any metal object moving in front of you. When you get to work just release the magnet!
Mod 1 would be something we've all seen out of Knight Rider. It's where Micheal would use his watch to summon Kitt. I could see that being very useful.. say, in a Mall parking lot. There we are (the future wife and I).. loaded with stuff. "Swamp Thing, I need ya buddy!" My truck starts up.. and pulls up at the Mall entrance. That might be cool..
Mod 2 would be straight outta Back to the Future. It's the mod where the car could fly.. that would be nice in traffic!!
I have always told myself that the next time I see a car hauler with an epty spot or a unloaded flatbed with ramps, to get on the CB and ask for a lift, with a little bit in his pocket, 20 bucks or so.....2 tons cant hurt the gas mileage of that thing anyways right? And it would save me alot on a long trip....
