2001 psd exhaust
I have a 2001 f-250 psd and was wanting to upgrade my exhaust after reading a lot of post here. So I crawled under the beast and measured the diameter of the exhaust. If I measured it right everything is 3.5 inches and the down pipe is 3 inches. Is this normal? would I be gaining much by putting a 3.5 down pipe on? would I also need to add a see through muffler? I plan to add a scmt 90 hp program and I tow a 10,000 lb trailer. Also plan to get a pyrometer, along with a turbo temp monitor with auto shut down. any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

3" downpipe and the rest is 3.5" so you are correct with your measurements. If you are going to add a chip or programmer you should upgrade the exhaust as you stated, 3 1/2" downpipe and straight through muffler or no muffler and staright pipe. Banks says there is no gains in going to 4" Assuming you are going to do these mods, a set of gauges should definitely come first.
