Don't know what's going on in the rest of the country, but here in Michigan the new F-150 tailgate seems to be a hot item. My sales rep told me to keep my tailgate locked as people were stealing them(right off dealer lots and even Ford plants). I didn't think much of it but kept it locked anyway. Well, it was just on the news that they are indeed being stolen left and right....just thought I'd give ya'll a heads up if ya haven't heard already....
I use to put hose clamps around the circular connectors at the bottom of the tailgates where they attach to the bed sides. I wonder if these new trucks have the same design? I'll have to look when I get off work. Anything to slow them down helps
i just started locking mine the other day. it's a habit i'll have to develop. just like locking my doors. thanks for the reminder, i'm going outside to lock it right now. sure would be ****ed if i ignored something like this only to find it stolen the next morning.
One of my employee's had her's stolen last week. It's been on the rise here in Oklahoma, is what the cop's told here. I'm guessing its easier to bend them with weight so there might be a higher demand.
If you abuse/use your truck bed alot, when you lift stuff into the back of the truck and stand on the tail gate you can bend the tailgate. You can notice this by looking down the tailgate when its closed and see a bow in it (compared to the straight edge of the bed were the bed and tailgate meet). Most people won't ever have this problem but some people who work out of their trucks and put heavy stuff in them do. Every truck I've owned I've bent the tailgate just enough to see a bow in it. Now my friend who is a contractor has bought a few tailgates on his day. I think a tailgate is rated around 500lbs and we together weight 600 which isn't to bad untill your looking at why there is to big guys standing on the tailgate. (were thrying to lift a 500 lb rearend into the back of the truck) Anyway you can bend a tail gate to the point its hard to close or wont close. Now, most people would say buy a 1 ton. They have the same problem.
I have the answer.............................. They all want that big blue oval on the tail gate
Or it is a gang of Dodge and Chey truck owners that want peopel to think they are driving a real truck so they replace thier tail gates with the Ford tail gate
Hey scott 1014 thats a good question. Why would anyone steal a new 150 tailgate. The truck hasnt been out that long. Must be worth some big bucks to somebody to sell or something. I would have never guessed.
Just guessing, but I would think the tailgate is worth about $1000. That's why they steal them. Hope I never catch one stealing mine...I'll grab him by the hair and slam his adam's apple in the hing a few times.
[I]Our tailgates our taller because of the additional depth of the bed. I think these are stolen, painted green/yellow, shipped to wisconsin. They are distributed by a blackmarket
dealer (dare I say mob?). They are then made into XXL tailgate tables for hungry Packers fans. They hold 20% more Kraut & kielbalsa.
