Whipple 5.4 still not ready

I got this from Whipple today:

We do not have a release date at this time. We are hoping to have our 5.4
system ready to sell within the next few months. We are finishing up with
the computer calibrations and getting our system CARB approved. I will keep
your e-mail address and notify you as soon as we are ready to take orders.
Thank you for your interest,
Shonda

good luck mate. I sent whipple an email a couple of months ago regarding Propane supercharging. they replied within a week saying they dont do it and cant offer any ideas... I *got* the idea from a truck I saw with a whipple blower that was running straight propane.
if you dont want to take your chances with whipple, go with Eaton. their twin screw generation IV series are the best on the market.

Well, I saw that Eaton and I am very impressed by it. So, is it a better set up then Whipples?

Whipples are more efficient, which means slightly higher boost slightly lower air temperature, but comparitivly, whipple are more expensive.
especially seeing as you can get a good eaton m112 on ebay with less than 25,000 miles on it for $485 USD. I know because that's where I bought mine. it was off an 03 ford lightning.
the whipple and eaton blowers work on the same principle, the only difference being that whipple uses a more effective form of twin screw for their setup.
keep in mind that you can buy the whole top end (eaton m112 s/cer, 30lb injectors, intake manifold, cold air intake, maf, knock sensor etc etc) of a lightning for about $1300 USD (ebay again). then all you would need to do is either get an aftermarket engine management system (eg; wolf 3d) or get the lightning computer from an auction.
those lightnings pump out 380 HP with that m112 eaton blower.

Wow, that's impressive! Thanks for that info. I am told I cannot S/C my Superduty until the factory warranty has expired.

not for full boost from off idle to red line.
that means Torque.

M112s get bought by 97 and up Buick Regal and GTP guys too. They use the rotors to convert thier stock M90s.(yea buick regals (14.9 sec. sleeper) and GTPs come factory supercharged)

If I put one of the Eaton's on my Expy, would I need to upgrade the brake system (like to Wilwood or Brembo)?? As it is, I can feel a difference just ading the 22" rims...takes just a little longer to slow down with those heavy-*** things on!!

Lungfixer; paxton soperchargers are centrifugal, and only put out useable boost above say 2500 rpm (they need to spool up) they are just belt driven turbos.
eaton and whipple all roots style superchargers give you power (and torque) from the moment you put your foot down. (but not at idle because they have vacuum bypass valves)

as for the brakes, upgrade them if you feel you should, I dont know much at all about expy's.

Positive displacement blower boost curve.
2000: 8
2500: 8
3300: 8
3500: 8
4000: 8
4500: 8
5000: 8
5500: 8
6000: 8
boost will vary slightly due to the VE of the engine at certain rpm.

Centrifugals tend to be a little faster at the track, but Positive displacement works better in a heavy vehicle like a truck.

Scopie,

That's exactly the kind of info I needed, thank you. I want torque off the line...makes merging into traffic a whole lot easier!

I found this while searching for barake upgrades, though you guys might be interested...

I got tired for waiting for Whipple....so I got a 9 spi Kit from ATI with 3-core intercooler. There's a lot to be said for instant boost but I think I prefer the ATI. Easier on the powertrain and easier to deal with. Plus a 3 year warranty is very good.

Crap, I hope you are going to give us more information than that!!! How do you like it? Was it easy to install? What does it dyno out to? C'mon I am dying here!

I am torn between the twin-screw (Whipple or Eaton) and the Vortech who claims they can give good towing boosts just above the 2k rpm band. Like you said, the 3 year warranty makes it easy to swing to the centrifugal side. Not only that, if a component on the charger goes bad, the factory induction system is still intact and you can limp home.
