Hey fella's... I don't venture to this side of the woods much (I mostly stick around with the Ranger guys) however, I have been looking to buy another vehicle. Here's the thing, I cannot decide between a 2wd F-250 PSD (7.3L), and a new Ranger (if I get a Ranger, it'll have to be 4wd, 4.0L). Anyways, the Ranger will be lucky to hit 19-20 on a regular basis, and it only put's out a few hundred pnd/ft. torque... but on the other hand, I could go w/ the TPSD with a few hundred horses and 500+ pnd/ft. torque, and get what kind of gas milage?? As I said before, IF I buy a PSD, it will be the newer body style, 2wd, 7.3L, crew cab (isn't this the one w/ 4 doors but the back two are half doors?), and a short bed. I drive very easily, and usually keep the speedo around the 60 mph mark (unless on the turnpike, which is seldom). So... what do you guys think?
Thanks,
Stan
P.S. While I am looking at these PSD's, is there anything that I should be aware of, i.e. certain years were problematic for some reason... or anything like that? I personally have never owned a diesel, but have driven a few (not that this really matters I guess though).
crew cab is a full 4 doors with the full sized bench in the back, super cab has the half doors in the back with a glorified shelf with padding on it for a back seat.
I traded a 99 Sonoma 4WD for my 97 PSD about a month ago. I get the same mph, just now I can pull, or haul, just about anything I want. No downside for me, but I guess it's your call. I wouldn't let the mpg get in your way these engines are awesome, but I must admit, I do kinda miss my 4WD.
I've got a '95 350 5spd cc 4x4 and although it's turned up a little, I still manage @16-17 in town and 19-21 on the road depending on how in to it I get. I also have a ranger - if it's that hard to decide, get both!
I have an '02 CC,SD, 7.3L PS short bed. I just ran from Kansas City to Tallegada, Al. I don't waste any time (75-80) and got 17.5 to 18 MPG. I get 15 -16 MPG running around town. If I would keep my foot out of it I thinik I could hit 20 MPG with no problem but I sure love that power.. Go PowerStroke...
Some things you can't put $$$ on... it's kinda like a good women... LOL
I have a 97 F250 4x4 and i usually get 18 mpg on the road and that's with 160,000 miles. If you plan on keeping either truck i would go with the powerstroke because the 4.0 is known for having head problems. I now several guys who have had to replace heads at 60,000 miles. That's my .02
How do you guys get this mileage? I dont believe that becuase i have 4wd that i should get 10? I dont get it
Because diesel engines get much better mileage than comperable gas engines. I'm assuming you're comparing it to the gas engine you have listed in your sig. 4x2 gets better mileage than 4x4 because there is less wind resistance and the truck a tiny bit lighter.
