Seeking information on my engine
VIN# 1FTNZW21P83EC81578
Engine #6059363 Build date 26 March 2003
The truck has 8600 miles on it and is getting an average of 19 MPG highway at about 65 MPH. Runs strong and I have had no issues with it so far.
I am concerned about injector failure though and am wondering how I know if an injector has gone bad, other than seeing a rise in the oil level.
Thanks

I understand you will get a definite rough idle and loss of partial power. It wil most likely throw a code. I think that just because you have C94 injectors it doesn't mean they will fail.
Secondly, I have never had to drain my fuel filter/water seperator in 21,000 miles. The only service was changing the fuel filters at 15,000 miles like the manual says. It seems to me that with the "easy to strip brass" drain valve and the hassels with 4X4's, it's not worth it unless your light comes on. I run Power Service all winter and every other tank in summer. More for the injector lubrication than anything, but figure the water emulsifier and injectors cleaners can't hurt either.
I use Motorcraft 15W-40 from the dealer (they do mny service) and have had zero engine problems. I changed oil at 3,000 / 6,000 / 12,000 / 17,000 and will be due at 22,000.
Good luck,
Jeff
Best of luck to you with the fuel/water separator. I do it every month. It takes no more than 5 minutes. I have a 6mm hex key I keep in the truck. I don't doubt people have stripped the plug but I think overtightening it is the root cause.
But if it works for you that's fine. I am not going to wait for the warning light to come on.
Steve
Now there is both ends of the spectrum.

Since we are meeting in the middle, lets meet for a beer.
I'll buy the first two rounds.
I agree, just think that some people (not all) are "overly concerned" and "overly ****" with their trucks... that's all. For what we all paid, It is very understandable and considering the problems some have had, it is even more understandable.
I get tired of certain questions (over and over again):
1) Which oil is better - regular or synthetic?
2) Which fuel additive is better - "X" or "Y" - and ask it 10 times.
3) What is break-in (is this thier first car or truck - read the manual and use common sense - all of us have an opinion, so they better be open for 10 different answers. Usually, most say 1st or 2nd oil change.
4) If I run a "chip" will it void my warranty? - Can't they read like the rest of us and again use common sense? Be prepared to "pay" if you "play".
5) Where is cheapest place to buy an air-filter or fuel filter (check your local stores and see for your self (or this website for mail order places). Save $5.00 on a $40,000 truck personally doesn't appeal to me with the "problems" some trucks are having and Ford is questioning - use common sense... again.

My important questions are:
1) Boxers or briefs?
2) Is Miller Lite "Less filling" or "tastes great"?
3) Do women really look better after 3 or 6 beers?
4)
Here in Kansas City... didn't Ford send you you a TSB?
TSB (broadcast #12345): "Women with 10 pounds of extra/new torque is at Jeff's house... schedule appointment for upgrade today to be R2-D2 compatable (sounded close to OBD-II)!!!
If others don't know the "inside joke" go to thread about 2005 6.0LPSD motors "Do they have more torque?"... and read the posts.
Thanks,
Jeff
With a Dec. 2002 engine build date you will have C94 injectors.
Hope this helps
Yes, I am **** retentive about some things on the truck but not others. My truck looks like I just went muddin. But I change the oil too often and drain my fuel/water separator too often.
There is no such thing as common sense anymore. It is not very common. It is the gift of logical thinking that some of us possess. It is the effect of medical technology on natural selection.

Forums always have redundancy on questions; it is the nature of the media.
New folks join and really do not know what or how to search, some want to become part of what is happing!!! The elder statesmen’s of the forum will always find a way to direct or engage the questions. Yes it is a bit old but everyone wants and needs to learn.
