427 piston replacement
427 piston replacement
Hey guys
I have a friend with a 427 and is wanting to get it ready for FE nationals. He is needing to know what pistons will be good replacements and where to get them. He is wanting about 11.5 to 1 compression. he said he heard that he could use chevy 454 pistons but would have to do some extra machine work because chevy has press in piston pins. I told him that there was surely a replacement and that i would check with you guys and get back to him if there are any questions let me know.
Thanks
Bigern

Are your stroker pistons the press pin type or floating Greg?
You will also need to let us know what heads you are running. This could make a big difference on the compression. I would stay away from the BBC pistons for the 427. You will have a hard time finding a piston with the right compression height to work with the stock rods. If you get BBC rods you will need to turn the journals down to 2.2". Many people do this when making stroker cranks from stock 427 cranks but not while keeping the same stroke.
BBC pistons have many uses in stroker FEs but not in stock ones.
There are some Ross pistons here that will likely give you what you are looking for. You might be able to buy them cheaper elsewhere. I have never done business at this place so I do not know. Check DSC like Greg mentioned also.

Here are also some Arias pistons... They have a nice compression ratio table here:

Thanks again guys
I will let my buddy know what you have told me and maybe hell find what he needs.
He never told me the heads he was using. But this just goes to show that when i have been bragging on this website people listen and maybe we can get even more users in here. I think that is cool. Well bye for now guys and thanks again.
