I have a 99 model F250 SD 2 wheel drive. It has no Tow hooks on it now but I want to add some cause I have a 2WD and I have already been stuck 2 times in it. Once in the snow and once in the sand...Im looking on ebay and I see OEM and Factory Super Duty tow hooks that fit my year but I dont see how these could mount up. There is a plate where the tow hooks normally sit on a 4x4. Do I have to change out the plate and add the hooks or ??. Any info would be helpful. Thanks..
I'm not sure about this, since the tow hooks are already on mine. If you take off your bumper, I'm guessing there is a plate covering where the tow hooks go, just to keep crap from getting in there. The bumper is very easy to get off, four bolts, two each side, and I had mine off. It helps to have two people too, one to take the bolts out and the other to hold the bumper. I'm guessing there is just a plate there held on by the bumper bolts, so when you take your bumper off you can pull out the plate and put your tow hooks in.
Hopefully that will help some.
One thing to watch for, if your truck has the plug for the engine heater, it is connected to the bumper, so be sure to pop that off, and don't try to run away with the bumper once it was off like I did. No harm done though.
As far as I am aware , their is a big support (bumper support) as to where the tow hooks mount too. I remember seeing this when I was installing my brush guard. It uses the holes directly next to the hooks.
