Over the summer I had a set of roof marker lights put on my truck. Ever since then I have been having problems. Currently, when I pull the headlight switch all the way out only the headlights come on, no tail lights. When I push the switch back in a little bit the headlights go off, and the tail, marker, and dash lights come on. I have replaced the light switch box twice and it still does the same thing. All fuses are fine and the wires are all connected in the right spot. I am tired of driving around at night with just my head lights and flashers on to keep from getting pulled over. Anybody have a clue as to what might be the problem?
The grounds are all fine. All the lights work fine. However I can't get them to work at the same time (headlights and tailights). You would think that the problem is in the switch box, but I have replaced it twice allready with no luck.
it could be possible that one of the marker lites is shorting out the system.check where the lite screws onto the cab ,maybe one of the wires has a bare spot or the wire hole cut into the plastic exposing the metal shorting the lites out.just a tought.disconnect the cab lites and see if the problem is caused by them.
I disconnected the marker light wire and put them to their own seperate switch inside the cab. However I am still having the same problem with the head and tail lights. If it comes down to it I geuss I could take the truck to the ford dealership and have them fix it, however that would be expensive.
i swear it sounds like the headlite switch is bad ,however you said you allready changed it so i give up sorry i could not help seeing i am here and you are there with the truck
Thats what I think, maybe I'll just take it back NAPA and replace it one more time. If that doesn't work I"ll just take it to the dealership and loose all my moral.
For your guys information I went and had the truck looked at. Turns out that not only the marker lights were causing the problem but also from having tralier lights plugged up. Both these extras were providing too much current for the switch box to handle causing it too fry. She is in the shop now and is getting re wired with the appropriate stuff to handel the extra currents.
