I have a 1989 Bronco it came with a 5.0 but when i got it was bad I had a 289 with 351W heads that was completly rebuilt never bored out and he put all new inside, pistons ,rings, bearings ,cam (dont know the cam size or if its stock) everything!!!! he did the same with the heads (all new that is) the heads were also shaved. when i installed it to the Bronco i used everything from the original engine sensors egr electronic ignition fuel injection everything!!! and it runs really good but my question is that it just doesnt seem like its got enough power. i want to take more advantage of the bigger valves that are in the 351W heads and hopefully add more torque and HP what can I do will a throttle body spacer help, a chip or maybe bigger injectors im not up on computer controled engines. any help would be greatly appreciated.
Not sure if SuperChips has anything for that old in the way of a progammer, but they may have a replacement chip to help. If you open up the intake side with a larger throttle body and the worked heads, think about the exhaust side in the form of headers and exhaust to make the engine breathe easier. You may lose HP and torgue in one area, but gain it in the other, i.e., low end vs. top end. Also, look for mods on the tranny and torque converter like shift kits and various stall speeds.
If you can find out what camshaft is in it you will have a better idea what to expect. What exhaust are you running? Sounds like nice setup, we need more info to comment.
its just the stock exhaust and manifolds and the guy who built it has since passed away so there is no way to find out without removing the cam. as for the bigger exhaust right now it goes from manifolds to the first cat and then to another one and then the muffler i kinda want to keep it on the quiet side so what could i use for a new system
Headers and a cat back exhaust would help. If the fuel injection runs good try performance intake kit and maybe higher ratio than stock rocker arms.
Maybe start with exhaust and then move to intake.
