I have a 2004 250 Lariat. The other day both my key chain remotes stopped working. They will not lock or unlock the doors. The keyless entry pad works and the lock/unlock button on the door works ok.
I tried following the reprograming instructions in the manual. After cycling the key 8 times and stoping in the 'on' position, the door locks locked and unlocked like it said would happen. At that point I pushed the button on the remote, but got no response. I also got no response when I pushed the 7.8 and 9.0 entry pad buttons together. I was mindfull of the time restrictions during the procedure. (20 sec.)
Any ideas how I can restore the key chain remotes back to opperation?
I agree... batteries... You can also try putting them in the drivers side front wheel well and clicking them there.. A few places where I park have microwave transmitters around & they interfere with the FOBS. I don't think this is the problem since your Touch pad still works.. Yep, yep, probably batteries...
Also, when you are inside the remotes, clean the contacts. I had a remote to an explorer that quit working once a year. The grime from my packet fouled things up. After a good cleaning everything was back to working order.
I'm curious why the doors didn't lock when he pushed the [7|8] and [9|0] buttons at the same time. I assumed he tried it with the doors closed. Makes me wonder if the key fobs aren't the problem. Furthermore, what are the odds of both key fobs (and fairly new ones at that) failing at the exact same time?
Assuming that he's following the proper instructions for reprogramming, I suspect that the problem lies elsewhere. Might be time for a warranty repair at the dealer.
