I've been re-doing several things to a 56 F100 I bought awhile back. I decided to replace the Holley electric fuel pump (the whinning noise irritated these old ears) with a mech. pump on the 302. However, the pump isn't pumping gas. I removed it and looked in the mounting hole with a mirror and don't see any cam for the pump arm to ride on. Is the cam for the fuel pump an add-on to the engine cam? I assumed all I had to do was install a new mech. pump. Not. Any help appreciated. Thanks.
It was my understanding that the fuel pump eccentric was on carbed and efi motors, if its not there then its not there huh? The person that built the motor must have known they were using an electric pump and left it off. Short of taking everything from the timing cover forward off its an easy fix, you need a fuel pump eccentric that bolts to the front off the timing chain/camshaft, since you said that one wasn't there. Good luck
56Fun, I can't use email yet. You also may need the longer pin for the cam, I will look for one of those. Not sure if I have that around, but if I do, I will send that also.
I am in VA, so UPS to most places on the east coast are 1 to 2 days.
You can tell if the fuel can eccenrtis is on the engine, just by feeling up inside of of it....Your best bet is to just go ahead and buy that hollet electric pump for about 100.00 dollars, and install it under the left rocker panel, just be sure, you put your filter behind that electric pump. Electric pumps give you faster starts anyway, mount it under rubber and it will reduce the racket they make. The holley electric pump on my 292 doesn't require a fuel return line either and gives good starts right away, withought my chock having to be used. Think you ought to know, that fuel pump mechanical eccentric missing or loose, will make your engine shake a bit off balance, but not a big enough issue to worry about......Janet
