Exclamation engine swap

I'm looking into buying a 1992-1994 F-150. Is it possible to swap the engine that is in it for a big block? I was thinking somewhere between 390 and 429 ci. I know everyone is going to say just buy a truck that has one already in it but that's to easy I like to do things the hard way. If anyone could give me some info and some of the parts I will need it would be greatly appreciated.

Well a 390 would need all custom stuff since it was never offered it this chassis but the 460 was so it will bolt in with the right stuff. You never said what engine the truck has now so I can not say if it will bolt up to the 460.

I'm not sure what motor I am going to end up with I just want to get a truck for right now. I Drive an eclipse and it really isn't a very good hunting or fish vehicle. I'm looking for a good deal right now it really doesn't matter what motor it comes with but it has to be a 5 speed. I'm guessing that it will have an inline 6.

If you don't plan on spending a lot of money, don't do it. I have a 95 F150 flareside and did the deed. I took a 460 from a 73 Lincoln and adapted a C6 to the transfer case. It runs great and drinks a lot of gas. I could not reuse anything from my old motor. It is very expensive to do this conversion but it can be done. Check out L&L Products for a complete listing of conversions.

Since you don't have the truck yet, I would just buy an F250 with the 460 already in it. That will save alot of hassle and money doing the conversion. A used F250/460 isn't much more money or much more difficult to find than an equal year and condition F150, plus you get a truck that is designed to do the pulling and hauling work that the 460 is capable of.

I would also second SoCal, especially since you want a five-speed and an F-150 five-speed will not bolt to a 460.
