major problems - need help bad
first problem: i have a really crappy single honda civic fan hooked up to the radiator right now, on one side of it. i plug the wire into the battery every time i go somewhere LOL. do you know of the correct amperage switch? i want to go with dual fan kit, or maybe have the fans come on with the ignition, but don't know the wiring diagram for it, and it looks as if it may be totally non original.
second problem: the really small wire from the coil to the distributor is twisted together and bare and hanging in the air very dirty. The cap is new, but im pretty sure the plugs and wires are old. the rotor looks original, but i really dont want to have to throw down for an expensive new one if not necessary. The connection for the power to the starter from the voltage distibutor (which is a 0ga wire) is a little bare where it meets the dist, can that affect anything? I am wondering if it is most likely these problems that are causing my starting problems, or if it is the fact that the starter heat shield is a coffeecan, and i need to get a hardcore heat shield ( does anyone know of a hardcore heat shield, like that fiberglass material they use for plug wires?) The battery terminals are a little dirty but are tightened tight as can be
STARTING PROBLEMS: GAve it some cool-mediumhot driving around for a while then just kinda lit hte tires for like 10 seconds in my friends road. So i parked, and 2 mins later tried to start it, it was having some problems and wouldn't start, I thought maybe it was hot,but it was just clicking , so i tightened down the battery positive cable and that did the trick, pulled down to go thru drivethru to get food, kept stalling if i didnt give it gas, then totally conked out for 15 mins until i used starting fluid and it would fire over for a second then die eventually i got it started and gave it a lot of revs for 30 seconds then drove of without letting off the gas, and when i got to the intersection and had the revs as high as my manual drums would permit (400rpm's over normal) it stalled, and started up and i gave it gas and it went. going 30 down a road at semi low RPMs it died. towed home. ****ed. Please help with any suggestions i would appreciate it.
You haven't said specifically what year truck this is, or what engine is in it(429?), but it sounds like the typical engine swap in with no attention to details(no fuel filter?). If it's an old truck that has been sitting around for awhile, and is suddenly brought back to life with a new engine swap, then the gas tank may have to be pulled out and cleaned. And they wiring certainly needs some attention, or it can give you problems. You can do a nice patch job on the wiring if you go to radio shack and buy some heat shrink tubing, and a soldering iron and some solder. Put the heat shrink tubing on the wire, solder the wire together, and then slide the tubing over the connection and shrink it, and you will have a nice looking splice.
Write in what you find, and give some info on the history of the truck, what kind of engine, and what type of carb you are running.
