distributor
distributor
Few months ago when we replaced my TFI module (91 302), we never seemed to put the distributor back in its original position. It doesnt seem to be running as good as it use too (power sucks), and my gas mileage has dropped considerably. I know i can do the whole tdc thing, but i dont have a big enough socket to turn the crank. I was wondering i could possibly just pull the distributor out and turn it counter clock wise some so itd be close to its original position. I know its not right at the moment because i noticed the TFI module is hitting up against my radiator hose, and it never did that before with the old module so i know the distributor wasnt put back in the same. I just would like to do this for now until i cant get somebody else to do the whole tdc blah blah thing. Would it hurt anything by just doin this? Sorry dont go nuts on me cause i really dont know one thing about distributors and ignition timing. Thanks.
Did you set the timing after the module replacement?
I think you can do what you're asking about, just be sure to mark things so you can maintain the relationship between the rotor and housing. Reset timing afterward.

Pull distributor up while applying pressure on the rotor in the direction you want it to go. As soon as it moves one notch, push the distributor back down. The oil pump drive will now not engage, so merely bump the starter. You'll see the distributor settle back down in the hole when the drive engages.
Moving the rotor clockwise retards it, counterclockwise advances it.

I need HELP really bad now guys! Stupid me screwed with it and now the truck wont even start no more! Somebody please help me and tell me what the heck im doin wrong if you can or how to fix it now
yes, get a socket. Turn the crank until the first piston is on tdc of the compression stroke not exhaust. The rotor should point at #1 on the cap. And unplug the spout connector and time it to 10 btdc. put the spout connector back in.
